Why Puffino?
What makes Puffino Toys different from other toy shops?
Puffino Toys is a carefully curated toy shop rather than a marketplace built around having as many products as possible.
We look for toys that offer something beyond short-lived entertainment: quality materials, attention to safety, thoughtful design, imaginative play, hands-on discovery and lasting play value. We pay particular attention to the materials used, the manufacturer's approach to quality and the suitability of each toy for its intended age group.
Our collection includes wooden toys, puzzles, construction toys, puppets, sensory toys, pretend-play sets, baby toys and educational products from specialist makers across Europe and beyond.
We choose products because we believe they deserve a place in a child's playroom—not simply because they are popular or heavily advertised.

Are Puffino Toys safe for children?
Child safety is one of the most important things we consider when selecting products.
All products in our collection carry CE marking, indicating that the manufacturer declares compliance with the applicable European requirements for the product. For toys, these requirements include relevant toy safety legislation.
However, CE marking does not mean that every toy is suitable for every child or that supervision is never necessary.
We encourage parents to read each product description carefully, paying particular attention to the recommended age, safety warnings, materials and instructions for use. Some toys contain small parts or other components that make them unsuitable for younger children.
By choosing age-appropriate toys and following the manufacturer's instructions, parents can make more informed decisions about the products they bring home.
Your child's safety matters to us, and providing clear product information is an important part of helping you choose with confidence.
What does the CE mark on a toy mean?
All products sold at Puffino Toys carry CE marking.
The CE mark indicates that the manufacturer declares the product conforms to the applicable European Union requirements. For toys, these include relevant safety requirements designed to help protect children's health and safety.
CE marking is an important part of toy compliance, but it should always be considered alongside the individual product's recommended age, warnings, instructions and intended use.
We encourage parents to review this information before purchasing a toy, particularly when buying for babies, toddlers or children who may put objects in their mouths.
At Puffino Toys, we believe that informed parents are better equipped to choose toys that suit their children's ages, interests and needs.
Are your toys non-toxic?
Children’s safety is one of our priorities. All our products carry CE marking, indicating that the manufacturer declares conformity with applicable European requirements for toy safety.
Many of our wooden toys feature child-friendly finishes, such as water-based paints and natural oils. As materials vary between products, we recommend checking individual products descriptions for specific details.
We carefully select toys with quality, safety and children’s wellbeing in mind.
Are Puffino Toys eco-friendly?
We believe choosing better-made toys can be part of a more thoughtful approach to buying for children.
Several of our wooden toys are made using sustainably sourced timber, while some products use natural oils, water-based finishes or certified textiles. However, not every toy in our shop is made from the same material or has identical environmental credentials.
Rather than describing every product as universally “eco-friendly”, we prefer to provide the specific material and sustainability information supplied by each manufacturer.
This means parents can make a more informed choice.
Are your toys made in Ireland?
Puffino Toys is based in County Kerry, Ireland, but our toys are sourced from specialist manufacturers in different countries.
Our collection includes products from makers in Germany, Poland and other locations. Each product page should be treated as the best source for the specific country of manufacture.
We believe that good toys can come from different traditions and places. What matters to us is the quality, safety, play value and values of the maker.
How do you choose which brands to stock?
We look for brands and products that fit the Puffino philosophy.
We consider factors such as:
- quality
- safety information
- materials
- craftsmanship
- durability
- design
- play value
- developmental opportunities
- sustainability practices
- originality
- reputation of the manufacturer
We're interested in toys that children can do something with, rather than products designed simply to occupy them.
Where does the wood in your toys come from?
This depends on the manufacturer.
Our collection includes wooden toys made in countries including Germany and Poland, with individual brands specifying different types and sources of timber.
For example, Beck Holzspielzeug describes its toys as being made from sustainable local wood in Germany, while Bajo and Drewart wooden toys are made in Poland using Polish wood, combining local materials with the experience and craftsmanship of their manufacturers.
We recommend checking each product page for the exact wood type, country of manufacture and sustainability information.
How are your wooden toys made?
There is no single manufacturing process across our collection.
Some toys are traditionally crafted from solid wood, while others combine woodworking, painting, assembly and specialist manufacturing techniques.
Several of the brands we work with are family-run manufacturers with decades of experience. Beck, for example, has been making wooden toys in Germany since 1946, while Drewart has been crafting wooden toys in Poland since 1982.
This craftsmanship is an important part of why we select these products.
Whenever possible, we provide information about the manufacturer, country of production, materials and finishing on the product page.
Are your toys designed to last?
Durability is one of the qualities we look for when selecting products.
Many of our wooden toys are made from solid or durable timber and designed for repeated play rather than short-term use.
Good examples include wooden construction toys, puzzles, dollhouses, marble runs and pretend-play sets.
A durable toy can also have a longer useful life within a family, which may make it possible to pass it from one child to another.
How should I clean wooden toys?
Cleaning instructions vary by product.
For many wooden toys, the manufacturer's recommendation is to wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth and allow the toy to dry naturally.
Avoid soaking wooden toys or exposing them to excessive water unless the manufacturer specifically says this is safe.
For example, some Puffino Toys wooden products specifically recommend cleaning with a damp cloth.
Always follow the cleaning instructions on the individual product page.
How should I clean soft toys, puppets and fabric toys?
Cleaning instructions depend on the materials used.
Some fabric products can be hand-cleaned, while others have more specific care requirements.
For example, some Jolly Designs products specify hand cleaning with a soft brush and lukewarm water, while other products recommend a damp cloth and mild soap.
Always check the product's care instructions before washing or treating it.
How should I store wooden toys?
Store wooden toys somewhere clean, dry and away from prolonged moisture or extreme heat.
Wood is a natural material, so excessive moisture can affect it over time.
For toys with multiple pieces, keeping the components together in a suitable box or storage container can also help prevent lost pieces and extend the life of the toy.
For individual products, follow the manufacturer's care instructions.
Are your toys educational?
Many of our toys have educational or developmental value, but we don't believe a toy needs to feel like a lesson to be worthwhile.
Good play can naturally support:
- fine motor skills
- hand-eye coordination
- problem solving
- concentration
- language
- imagination
- creativity
- sensory exploration
- communication
- social skills
- independence
- confidence
A puppet can encourage storytelling and language. A puzzle can encourage concentration and problem solving. Building toys can encourage creativity and spatial thinking.
The most important thing is that the child wants to play.
Are Puffino Toys Montessori toys?
Some products in our collection are described by their manufacturers as Montessori-inspired or suitable for Montessori-style play.
However, not every toy we sell is a Montessori toy.
We prefer to describe individual products accurately rather than applying the Montessori label to our entire collection.
Many of our toys share principles associated with open-ended, hands-on learning: simplicity, independent exploration, sensory experiences and allowing children to participate actively in their play.
See our sensory play guide.
What does “open-ended play” mean?
Open-ended play is play where there isn't only one correct way to use the toy.
Wooden blocks, construction sets, dolls, puppets and pretend-play toys are good examples.
A child can build, change, combine and reinvent the toy according to their own ideas.
This gives children more control over their play and can encourage imagination, creativity, problem solving and storytelling.

What toys help develop fine motor skills?
Fine motor play involves controlled movements of the hands and fingers.
Depending on the child's age, suitable toys can include puzzles, threading activities, construction toys, quiet books, stacking toys, sensory activities and other hands-on toys.
Many products at Puffino Toys are specifically selected because they encourage children to grasp, manipulate, connect, move, match or build.
Explore our sensory toy guide for babies and toddlers.
What toys encourage imagination and storytelling?
Puppets, dolls, dollhouses, figures, wooden animals, vehicles, castles and pretend-play accessories can all give children opportunities to create their own stories.
Hand puppets are particularly useful for shared play because parents and children can create characters and conversations together.
Explore our hand puppets and pretend play collections.
Why are puppets good for children?
Puppets can turn ordinary play into storytelling.
Children can use them to invent characters, act out stories, practise conversations or express feelings.
For parents, puppets can also become a wonderful way to encourage language and connection without making play feel like an exercise.
Puffino Toys has a large selection of hand puppets, from small characters to larger storytelling companions.
Read our guide: Puppets and Storytelling: Unlocking Imagination Through Play.
Are your toys suitable for screen-free play?
Yes. A major part of our collection is designed around hands-on, screen-free play.
Wooden toys, puzzles, puppets, construction toys, quiet books and pretend-play products give children opportunities to manipulate objects, create stories and explore ideas without a screen.
We believe screen-free play doesn't need to be complicated.
Sometimes a simple wooden toy and a child's imagination are enough.
How do I choose the right toy for my child's age?
Start with the age recommendation on the individual product page.
Then consider your child's interests, abilities and stage of development.
Two children of the same age can enjoy very different types of play. One may love puzzles, while another may prefer movement, pretend play, music or building.
That's why Puffino Toys makes it easy to browse toys by age, from newborn and baby toys through toddler play and toys for older children.
What are the best toys for babies?
For babies, look for toys that are appropriate for their developmental stage and designed for safe exploration.
Depending on age, this might include simple rattles, grasping toys, sensory toys, activity toys and other first-play products.
Always follow the manufacturer's age recommendation and safety instructions.
You can also read our guides to the best toys for newborn babies and 6-month-old babies
What are good toys for toddlers?
Toddlers benefit from toys that let them move, manipulate, build, sort, pretend and experiment.
Popular choices include:
- wooden blocks
- stacking toys
- puzzles
- push-and-pull toys
- pretend-play toys
- sensory toys
- simple musical instruments
- vehicles
- activity books
Our 1–2 years and 2–3 years collections make it easier to browse products suited to these stages.
Are your products good gifts for birthdays?
Absolutely.
One of the easiest ways to choose a gift is to start with the child's age and interests.
For a child who loves building, consider blocks or construction sets. For imaginative children, look at puppets, dolls and pretend play. For children who enjoy challenges, puzzles and games can be excellent choices.
What information should I check before buying a toy?
We recommend checking five things:
1. Age recommendation
Is it suitable for the child's age?
2. Safety warnings
Does it contain small parts, magnets, marbles or other components requiring additional care?
3. Materials
What is the toy made from?
4. Size
Will it work in your child's play space?
5. Type of play
Does it match the child's interests?
Our product pages are designed to give you this information before you buy.
What if I'm not sure which toy is right for my child?
We're happy to help.
Tell us the child's age, interests, budget and what type of play they enjoy, and we can help you narrow down suitable options.
